1
Challenge
How to build an experience for a piece of technology we haven't seen before?
Solution
This project demanded extensive management and trust, as we couldn’t experience the technology firsthand. Without being there in person, we relied heavily on the instincts of the onsite team, allowing them to make critical adjustments based on their observations.
2
Challenge
How can a VR experience be adapted into an infinite room experience?
Solution
We decided to create an abstract piece rather than a linear story, removing the narrator and allowing the score to guide the experience. Key moments were selected to enhance transitions, focusing on elements like water, the moon, lanterns, and dancers.
3
Challenge
Managing the complexities of converting an experience from Unreal Engine to Unity.
Solution
Each piece of art had to be recreated and optimized to run smoothly on the Dragon system. Additionally, as the experience evolved into a more abstract direction, we made significant edits to the score to align with this new approach.
After the success of Planet City at Tribeca 2022, we created a 2024 extension showcased in Mercer Labs' Dragon Room, featuring 507,000 LED neurons in an immersive, hologram-like 3D display.
Following the success of bringing the VR version of Planet City to the 2022 Tribeca Festival, we were invited to create a unique extension for the 2024 event. This new version was showcased in Tribeca’s takeover of the immersive Mercer Labs museum in NYC, specifically within the Dragon Room. Powered by Led Pulse and Dragon02 technology, the Dragon Room’s volumetric lighting system features an immersive 3D display of 507,000 synchronized LED neurons, casting hologram-like, luminescent particles that appear suspended in infinite space.
Results
Originally scheduled for a two-week run, the Planet City installation at the Tribeca Festival was extended by an additional six weeks due to strong critical acclaim, ultimately drawing over 50,000 visitors.
