1
Challenge
Creating a controller-free VR experience was essential to immerse users in the simulation, but ensuring seamless and intuitive interaction posed a challenge. Traditional VR controllers might have detracted from the natural in-car payment flow.
Solution
Well Played Studios integrated Leap Motion technology to track users' hand movements, allowing them to perform gestures like swiping, tapping, and selecting without physical controllers. This solution created a smooth, touchless interaction that mimicked real-world actions.
2
Challenge
Accurately simulating real-life payment interactions in a virtual environment required detailed consideration of various real-world scenarios, like paying at a drive-thru or toll booth, to make the experience both engaging and educational.
Solution
The team designed lifelike VR scenarios to replicate the entire payment process, including elements like driving to a gas station or pulling up to a drive-thru. Realistic graphics and audio were used to enhance immersion, making users feel as though they were truly experiencing the future of in-car payments.

Challenge
Visa needed a high-quality VR experience that could be transported easily for use at global trade shows and events, but ensuring the technology was durable and adaptable to different setups posed logistical challenges.
Solution
The simulator was developed with a portable design that could be easily packed, shipped, and set up at various locations around the world. By making it compact and mobile, Well Played Studios ensured Visa could use the system across multiple venues without sacrificing the experience's quality or functionality.
Visa partnered with Well Played Studios to develop an innovative VR experience, showcasing the future of in-car payments. The project involved creating an immersive simulator where users could engage with various payment scenarios—like paying for gas, tolls, parking, and drive-thru services—all while seated in a mock driver’s seat using VR technology.
Well Played Studios collaborated with Visa's IoT Connected Car team to create the Visa Connected Car VR Simulator, giving consumers and auto executives a glimpse into the future of in-car payments. Working with a fabricator, they designed a custom “buck”—a mock driver’s seat—where users could sit and experience the future of connected cars through a VR headset. The five-minute experience, built using Oculus Rift and Leap Motion, guided users through a series of interactive payment moments from within a vehicle, immersing them in the possibilities of automotive payment technology.
Results
The Visa Connected Car VR Simulator was showcased at multiple high-profile automotive events, including the LA Auto Show and various international conferences, where it garnered significant attention. Due to its success, an additional version of the simulator was installed at Visa's headquarters in San Francisco, serving as an ongoing demonstration of their innovative technologies. Impressively, the simulator also attracted interest from Jamie Dimon, CEO of JP Morgan Chase, who requested it be brought to his annual CEO summit, further highlighting Visa's leadership in automotive payment solutions.
