Challenge
Finding a Cost-Effective Networking Solution that would be financially viable for home, arcade, and Hologate versions posed a challenge.
Solution
After careful evaluation, Forge Networking was chosen as the optimal solution for its flexibility, scalability, and cost-efficiency, making it suitable for all three platforms without compromising performance.
2
Challenge
Expanding Blasters of the Universe to support multiplayer gameplay required a robust network infrastructure to handle multiple players in real-time environments.
Solution
Well Played Studios utilized Forge Networking to create a scalable system that could support up to eight players per room, ensuring stable multiplayer interactions with limitless room capacity.
3
Challenge
Developing the game for home, arcade, and Hologate environments required ensuring consistent gameplay across different formats.
Solution
Well Played Studios worked closely with Secret Location throughout the development of the game, ensuring that each version—home, arcade, and Hologate—was optimized for its respective platform. This included refining features and performance, which ensured a seamless and consistent experience for users across all environments, regardless of where or how they were playing.
Well Played Studios worked with Hasbro’s VR studio, Secret Location, to convert Blasters of the Universe into a multiplayer game, developing a network system for up to eight players with three unique levels and versions for home, arcade, and Hologate use.
Well Played Studios collaborated with Hasbro's internal VR studio, Secret Location, to transform the single-player game Blasters of the Universe into a multiplayer experience. Using Forge Networking, we developed a network system that supports up to eight players per room with infinite room capacity. This was critical for Secret Location to create three distinct levels, featuring four weapon types, ten-minute waves of enemies, and an epic boss battle at the end. Three versions of the game were built: one for home use, one for arcades, and a Hologate version for a broader audience.
Results
The collaboration between Well Played Studios and Secret Location on Blasters of the Universe was a tremendous success. The game has been distributed to over 1,000 VR arcades, allowing it to reach a wide audience. The Hologate version, specifically, was a standout, enjoyed by more than 20 million players through Hologate’s distribution network of over 450 units across 40+ countries. This widespread reach demonstrates the global appeal and scalability of the game, solidifying its place as a popular multiplayer VR experience.
